01

The question

Can a customer resolve a routine service request in one conversation, without repeating the story to three different teams? The valuable unit of work is the completed request. Voice quality matters, but it cannot compensate for a disconnected CRM or an unreliable tool.

02

The hard decision

The approach starts with a bounded journey: booking a service visit. It has a clear outcome, bounded permissions and an observable handoff. A general-purpose support agent creates a much larger evaluation and permission problem before the first workflow has proved itself.

03

Inside the system

ElevenLabs manages the dialogue and the chosen telephony integration. Application tools verify the caller, retrieve eligible slots and prepare a booking. After the caller confirms, a scoped service creates the appointment in the customer system. A request identifier makes retries safe. The tool layer can run on AWS, another cloud or customer-managed infrastructure.

04

When the happy path breaks

The agent must distinguish a slow response from a failed action. It checks the booking state before retrying, gives a clear account of what is confirmed, and transfers context to a person when identity or entitlement cannot be established. A handoff is an engineered outcome, not a generic fallback phrase.

05

The operating measures

Measure verified task completion, repeat contacts, tool failures, transfer success and cost per resolved request. Include interrupted speech, noisy calls, ambiguous dates and unavailable downstream systems in the evaluation set. Compare the experience with the current journey before widening scope.

06

What the client owns

Conversation policies, tool contracts, integration code, the evaluation set, operating dashboards and a clear release process. The goal is a service the customer team can understand and improve.
